In the City of Cranston’s first formal Fire Department swearing-in ceremony in five years, Mayor Michael T. Napolitano administers the oath to James B. Gumbley, who was appointed in March to succeed the retiring Richard Delgado as chief; at right is Gumbley’s wife, Jane. At top, Assistant Chief William McKenna’s badge is pinned on by his parents, Gerard and Mary Ellen McKenna. The ceremony was held Tuesday at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. A third photo appears on D2.
