The ninth-annual Spring in Greene Art & Wine event will be held at the Greene Public Library, 179 Hopkins Hollow Rd., Coventry, on Saturday, May 17, from 4 to 6 p.m. Participants will enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres while viewing works by local artists. Tickets are $12.50 per person and $20 per couple.

A licensed cosmetologist will give a free makeup demonstration Tuesday, May 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Warwick Public Library, 1043 Main St. Makeup will be applied to a live model, a volunteer from the audience will have her eyebrows shaped, there will be free drawings, and everyone will receive free makeup samples and/or skin care samples.
Computer classes for the month: Microsoft Excel Basics, Wednesday, May 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; Yahoo! E-mail, Tuesday, May 20, from 7 to 8 p.m.; Microsoft Word 1: Basics, Thursday, May 22, from 10 to 11 a.m.; Internet Basics, Saturday, May 24, from 10 to 11 a.m.; Microsoft Publisher, Thursday, May 29, from 10 a.m. to noon.
The book discussion group will meet Wednesday, May 28, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to discuss Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon.
Teen volunteers are needed this summer for five weeks for a variety of programs and duties: shelving and assisting with activities for two hours each week; planning and presenting a story program and craft activity for children ages 3 to 6 (training session in June); tutoring children entering grades 1 to 3 in basic reading skills on Tuesday evenings or Friday mornings. Applications are available June 2.
The library will offer a free eight week program of ESL classes from June 8 through July 30. There will be two classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:30 to 6 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m., and one class on Tuesdays, 9 to 11 a.m. A children’s literacy teacher will provide activities for children 3 and older while their parents attend the Monday and Wednesday classes. A conversation class for intermediate and advanced ESL students will meet on Tuesdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The book discussion group at the Louttit Library, 274 Victory Hwy., West Greenwich, will meet Tuesday, May 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. and Thursday, May 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. to discuss How Starbucks Saved My Life, by Michael Gates Gill.
The book discussion group at the William Hall Library, 1825 Broad St., Cranston, will discuss The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears, by Dianaw Mengestu, on Thursday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m.
The Cranston Public Library, 140 Sockanosset Cross Rd., will hold a reception to present its new “We the People” bookshelf on Monday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. The library was selected by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association to receive the free books, whose themes are “Created Equal.”
The Friends of the Cranston Public Library will hold its year-end celebration Wednesday, May 14, at 7 p.m. Former U.S. Sen. Lincoln D. Chafee will discuss his newly published book, Against the Tide: How a Compliant Congress Empowered a Reckless President. Copies will be available for purchase and signing.
