Composting workshop: Burrillville Parks and Recreation will host a composting workshop Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Community Recreation Center, Beckwith Bruckshaw Lodge, Lodge Road. The workshop will be led by Kristin Zawistowski, Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful coordinator and master composter. For more information, or to register, call (401) 568-9470.
Child Outreach program: Free screenings in vision, hearing, speech and development for children 3 to 5 years old, living in Burrillville, will be provided by the Child Outreach program Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Berean Baptist Church, Chapel Street. Parents are encouraged to have their children screened beginning at age 3 and then annually until they enter kindergarten. Appointment can be made by calling (401) 647-7560.
Pancake breakfast: Berean Baptist Church’s 3B’s Women’s Group will host a pancake breakfast Oct. 27 from 7 to 10 a.m. at the church, 474 Chapel St. The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes pancakes (plain or blueberry), ham and sausage, juice and coffee. Tickets are $6, adults; and $3 children under 10.
Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library, 144 Main St., will host a book discussion group meeting today at 7 p.m. The group will discuss The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. The group meets on the second Tuesdays of the month. All are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (401) 568-8244.
Pascoag Public Library, 57 Church St., will hold an early childhood literacy program “Mother Goose on the Loose” for children ages 2 to 5. The program will be held Oct. 18, Nov. 1, 8 and 15. Children will listen to stories, participate in finger plays, and dance to music with instruments. Signups are being held at the library.
A free introduction to guitar course will begin Oct. 20 from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. at the library. This is an eight-week course for ages 10 to adults.
Children, ages 2 to 5, are invited to the library for Sleepy Time Stories. The program will be held Mondays from 6:30 to 7 p.m., until Nov. 19.

Club Note
Burrillville Historical and Preservation Society will meet Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. at Bridgeton School, 16 Laurel Hill Ave. A presentation titled Ghost Stories will be held after the meeting. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The building will be open at 6 p.m. for those wishing to view an exhibit of photos, clothing and artifacts from Indian Acres Dairy, once the largest farm in Burrillville.
