More racist messages found at RWU

BRISTOL — Racists targeted Roger Williams University again last week when hate-filled messages were anonymously left in the offices of the student Senate office.
The first racist acts, which included messages scrawled on cars and posted on a dormitory wall, took place two weeks ago. The university responded by offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the perpetrators.
But last week, over a period of 36 hours, two notes were discovered targeting the leadership of the student Senate.
“There are a number of students in the Senate leadership who are of different races and ethnicities. The assumption is that was the target,” said Judith Johnson, executive director of university communications.
John King, the university’s vice president for student affairs, sent a campus-wide e-mail on Friday alerting the Rogers Williams community to the latest acts and repeating the reward offer.
Johnson said that the university’s public safety department continues to work with Bristol police investigating the hate acts.
“Because it’s an active investigation, we are not releasing what the messages are,” she said. “Obviously, we want to get to the bottom of this.”
