With the start of the 2008-09 school year, Portsmouth Abbey School welcomed Meghan Fonts of Bristol as its new director of Admissions. Fonts, formerly the school’s associate director of admissions, took over this summer for Geri Zilian, who had served in that capacity for seven years. Zilian continues in the school’s admissions office as a senior admissions associate. Fonts will oversee all areas of Portsmouth Abbey School’s enrollment and admissions activities and will direct a staff of six.
Roger Williams University School of Construction Management recently elected Thomas N. Comella as Chairman of the Professional Advisory Board. Comella is the Vice President of Construction Operations for the New England Region at Gilbane Building Company in Providence.
With over 42 years experience in the construction industry, Comella will contribute his knowledge, experience, and leadership to the Advisory Board to support the School of Construction Management in their mission to “Deliver the highest quality undergraduate professional education experience enabling the graduates to excel in the practice of their professional discipline.”
Bristol resident Paulette Carr will participate in The Providence Art Club’s 104th annual Little Pictures Exhibition, which will open Nov. 23 and continue until Dec. 24.
The club has been undergoing renovations since July and this show will be the first to mark the re-opening of the Maxwell Mays and Dodge House galleries. For more than a century, the Providence Art Club has displayed original works at small prices, all less than $250, at its annual Little Pictures Show & Sale.
Exhibit hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday, noon to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. For information, call (401) 331-1114. All exhibitions are free and open to the public.
Judith Reposa of Bristol recently won the Imago Gallery Members’ Award at Imago Gallery’s third annual juried art competition. Her piece is “Untitled II” and made from paper and threads. Ann Burkhardt of Bristol has been appointed director of the post-professional master’s degree program in occupational therapy in the School of Health Sciences at Quinnipiac University, New Haven, Conn.
In her new position, she will be responsible for marketing and recruitment efforts, overseeing and advising incoming students enrolled in the 32-credit post-professional program and working as a member of Quinnipiac’s occupational therapy department on curriculum design.
The post-professional master’s degree program in occupational therapy is geared toward licensed practitioners who have a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and want to merge their experience with advanced professional knowledge of emerging research, leadership, critical thinking and entrepreneurial concepts of occupational therapy.
