A man who is accused of molesting five victims over 15 years in Bristol and Warren has been convicted in one of the cases.

Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch announced Friday that Roger Morin, 49, of 300 Front St., Apt. 102, Pawtucket, has been found guilty of first-degree child molestation after a three-day jury trial in Superior Court overseen by Judge Robert D. Krause.

Morin’s victim said that he molested her between Sept. 28, 1989, and Sept. 28, 1992.

The jury deliberated for two hours Wednesday before it reached a verdict. Morin was acquitted of one count of second-degree child molestation.

Krause ordered that Morin, who has been free on surety bail since his arraignment on 16 counts of molestation on Dec. 8, 2008, be taken into custody and held without bail. A motion for a new trial has been scheduled for Nov. 20.

A Providence County grand jury indicted Morin on one count of first-degree child molestation and 15 counts of second-degree child molestation on Dec. 5, 2008, based on allegations of child molestation by five victims on dates ranging from Sept. 28, 1989, to Aug. 27, 2004.

The crimes are alleged to have happened in Bristol and Warren. At the time of the indictment, Morin listed his address as 15 Melrose Rd., Bristol.

Krause severed the case of the first alleged victim, who is now an adult, from the other four for the purposes of trial. The charges involving the adult have now been resolved, and the other four cases are pending.

“What makes this conviction important is that it stems from allegations … dating 20 years,” Lynch said. “It’s a case of perseverance paying off, and we’re grateful that it did because the defendant is alleged to have continued to molest children and accumulate victims.

“We look forward to prosecuting this convicted pedophile on the pending charges, and gaining justice for his other victims as well.”
