Students get a virtual feel for the real world
01:00 AM EDT on Thursday, May 15, 2008

Nolan Mello, a junior from Mt. Hope High School, uses an equipment simulator to move a backhoe on the screen during Construction Career Days at the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s Midstate Facility in East Greenwich yesterday. Now in its eighth year, the event allows hands-on exploration of construction equipment and tools for approximately 1,000 students from 45 technical and high schools throughout the state. The purpose is to expose students to the transportation trades industry.
