Bristol man injured in Maine ATV accident
01:00 AM EDT on Wednesday, August 27, 2008
A 46-year-old Bristol man was in critical condition in a Maine hospital yesterday after his all-terrain vehicle crashed on Sunday.
John Sylvia was being treated in the intensive care unit at Eastern Maine Medical Center, in Bangor, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday afternoon. Sylvia was taken to the hospital after suffering serious head injuries when his ATV flipped in Thorndike, a town in Waldo County.
The Maine State Police told the Republican Journal of Belfast, Maine, that at about 5 p.m. on Sunday Sylvia was trying to make a sharp right turn from a public road onto property he owns when his ATV rolled over. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Trooper Tom Welch told the newspaper.
Sylvia was transported on Sunday by a LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment.
