BARRINGTON

Poetry reading: Barrington Public Library and Little Pear Press will host a poetry reading tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s second-floor auditorium. The reading will be from Regrets Only: Contemporary Poets on the Theme of Regret. There will be refreshments and a chance to meet the poets after the reading. Books will be available for purchase.

Cleanup: The Barrington Garden Club will hold its monthly cleanup of the Osamequin Nature Trails and Bird Sanctuary tomorrow. Members should report to Osamequin at 12:30 p.m. and bring gloves.

Boston theater performance: Barrington Community School will offer a day trip to Boston to see a matinee performance of Twelve Angry Men, Saturday. Dubbed “the greatest courtroom drama of all time,” the performance will star Richard Thomas (The Waltons) and George Wendt (Norm on Cheers).

BRISTOL

Global Fest 2006: To celebrate and encourage cultural awareness, Roger Williams University will host Global Fest today from noon to 4 p.m. in the university’s campus Recreation Center Field House, One Old Ferry Road. The event is free to the public. Exhibitors will share Native American crafts, traditional Irish songs, Caribbean steel drum beats, ethnic fare and more. At 3 p.m., students from India will present “An Hour with India” that introduces the traditional cuisine, artifacts and culture of India.

Socrates Café: Today’s Socrates Café discussion will focus on the effect a gender role reversal would have on the world. Of all the Fortune 500 company CEOs, just eight are female – that’s less than two percent. And in the 109th Congress, only 82 of the 535 seats in the House of Representatives belong to women – about 15 percent. In most situations, men still hold a ruling majority. But what if the male-to-female ratio were reversed? Deborah Robinson, professor of English, will moderate the discussion.The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in the university’s main library on the Bristol campus at One Old Ferry Road. One-woman performance: Actress Marilyn Meardon will portray “Elizabeth I: In Her Own Words,” tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center in the Main Library at Roger Williams University, Old Ferry Road. Dressed in Tudor costume, Meardon will present a monologue drawn from Elizabeth’s speeches, prayers, poetry and letters. The event is free to the public, as space allows.

EAST PROVIDENCE

Harry Potter Book Club: The Harry Potter Book Club, for children in grades four and older, will meet tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Weaver Library, 41 Grove Ave. Participants can test their brain with “Harry’s Magical Mind Games,” working together to complete Harry Potter puzzles, including crossword, word scramble, riddles and Sudoku. LITTLE COMPTON

Harvest supper: The Little Compton Grange will hold its annual harvest supper Saturday at the IOOF Hall, the Commons. The menu is ham, potato, carrots, string beans, rolls, pudding and drinks. The supper will be served in two seatings, 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under. Takeout orders are $8.50 each. For reservations call (401) 635-4749.

NEWPORT

Holiday sale: The Friends Bookstore will hold its annual holiday sale Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in the program room on the lower level of the library. The bookstore staff has saved the best donations from the past year for this sale. Books, games, puzzles and videos are included. There will be a large selection of children’s books for all age groups. In addition, there will be many paperbacks priced at 50 cents or three for a $1 and hardcover books priced at $1.

Selected items will be half price on Monday. Proceeds from the sale support the library. Anyone interested in volunteering with the Friends to sort, price and shelve books, or to staff the store, should call Lynne Mallonee, (401) 846-8163.

Hip-hop dance performance: Off The Curb will host its annual “Bringing in the Funk” Hip-Hop Dance Showcase, Sunday at 2 p.m. at Rogers High School auditorium, Wickham Road. The event will feature the Off The Curb Performance Troupe, hip-hop dance performances by hundreds of Rhode Island youth as well presentations from guest artists. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students. For information, call (401) 862-0190 or visit www.offthecurb.com. Proceeds from this event benefit the Off The Curb youth outreach programs. Off The Curb is a nonprofit organization that uses dance to build confidence and self-esteem in young people.

Museum hours: The Newport Art Museum’s winter hours for its exhibition galleries and Museum Shop are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 4 p.m. Winter hours will continue until the start of Memorial Day weekend, at which time the closing hour will move to 5 p.m. each day.

Dance concert: The Salve Regina University Dance Club will present “Tearin’ Up,” its biannual dance concert Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the gym at Rogers Recreation Center. The performance will consist of works created by more than 20 student choreographers.

Admission for Saturday’s performance is a canned good for charity. Sunday’s tickets, $5 each, will be sold at the door.

PORTSMOUTH

Annual breakfast: The Portsmouth Portuguese American Citizens Club, 35 Power St., will hold its annual breakfast honoring their deceased members at the club, Sunday. The breakfast is free and will follow the 8:30 a.m. Mass, celebrated at St. Anthony Church, East Main Road. The Mass will be offered to the memory of all deceased club members.

Evening story time: The Portsmouth Free Public Library, East Main Road, will offer an evening story time tonight at 6:30. Children of all ages are invited, and pajamas are welcome. Parents or caregivers may sign up at the library or by calling the Children’s Room at (401) 683-9457. This program is free to the public.

TIVERTON

Christmas bazaar: Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Judson Street, will hold its annual Christmas bazaar Sunday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Featured will be gourmet food, holiday and handmade items, a plants booth, children’s crafts and games, photos with Santa, drawings for prizes and more. New this year is Santa’s Shop, where kids can buy inexpensive presents for their parents and relatives.

Tickets for the parish raffle are being sold for $2 each or $10 for a book of seven. This year’s first prize is $2,000, second and third prizes are $750 and $500. Winners will be drawn at the close of the bazaar on Nov. 19. Winners need not be present to win.
