Young actors sought: The Youth Musical Theater Corporation is looking for youth ages 5 to 18 to be in a production of The Wizard of Oz. The show will take place at the newly renovated state-of-the-art Theater at Bristol Community College in Fall River. The lead roles have already been cast but there are many openings for Munchkins, Winkie Guards, Dancing Poppies, Singing Crows, Talking Tress, Flying Monkeys and Citizens of the Green and Glowing Emerald City. Prostate cancer awareness program: Southcoast Hospitals will offering a free prostate cancer awareness program and screenings Oct. 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southcoast Oncology Center, 480 Hawthorne St., Dartmouth. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 979-5858, ext. 4001.

Health van schedule: The Southcoast Health Van provides free education and screenings for cardiac disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. It also serves as an off-site blood donation center for the Southcoast Blood Bank.

Primary services offered on the van include health screenings, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, vaccines, pregnancy testing, educational teen programs, medical physical referrals and health education. Tetanus diphtheria (Td) and pneumococcal vaccine are also offered.

Fall River

Seminar on violence: The Fall River Diocesan Council of Catholic Nurses will host a seminar titled “Whom Do You Trust? The Many Faces of Violence,” Oct. 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at White’s of Westport. Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided. The cost is $40 per person and the deadline to register is Oct. 17. For registration and information, call Betty Novacek, 678-2373.

Seekonk

Computer classes: Seekonk Public Library, 410 Newman Ave., will be offering computer classes to SAILS library cardholders this month. A variety of classes will be held to help ease the fear of computer use. The Introduction to Computers classes will help those new to computers to learn the basics and for those interested in navigating the Internet, there is Internet I: Basics. There will also be classes in Microsoft Office programs such as Word and Excel.

Registration is required for classes and class is open to either Massachusetts residents with a SAILS library card or Rhode Island residents with a Seekonk Public Library card.
