Fundraising scam: IN-SIGHT, previously known as the Rhode Island Association for the Blind, says it has received at least three complaints from people who report being contacted by phone by an organization calling itself The Rhode Island Association for Blind Citizens. The telemarketer allegedly asks for a monetary donation to support “services for blind people” and/or a “summer camp for blind kids.” In one case the caller asked the person to make out a check and leave it in their mailbox outside their home.

IN-SIGHT does not solicit donations via the telephone and does not make either its client list or donor list available to third parties or other organizations. Any solicitations for donations made by the organization are done in writing on IN-SIGHT letterhead. Anyone receiving a call from an organization purporting to raise money in support of people who are blind and visually impaired should ignore the request.
