Rose Island closed: The Rose Island Wildlife Refuge will be closed now through Aug. 15 for bird nesting season. During this time, there will be no walking or landing boats on the beaches except at the lighthouse. For information, call 847-4242 or visit www.RoseIslandLighthouse.org.
Crafters and artists sought: Hampden Meadows School’s Arts and Crafts Festival is seeking artists and crafters to participate in its sixth annual Arts and Crafts Show. Flower show: The Bristol Garden Club will decorate the Governor Bradford House at Mount Home Farm with flowers next week. The public is welcome Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission will be $5 per person, which includes a tour of the house. Mount Hope Farm is at 250 Metacom Ave.
Trips for elderly citizens: The East Providence Recreation Department will host trips next month for elderly citizens. On May 3, there will be a trip to the HuKeLau in Chicopee, Mass., for a Hawaiian floor show and dinner. A stop at the Yankee Candle Factory will follow. On May 16, there will be a trip to Luciano’s on Lake Pearl in Wrentham, Mass., for Prima Vera, a tribute to the music of Luis Prima and Keely Smith.

Benefit bowl-a-thon: “Strikes for Tikes,” a bowl-a-thon to benefit the children of A Wish Come True, will be held next Friday at the East Providence Bowling Lanes, 50 Newport Ave. A social hour will be held from 5 to 6 p.m., with the competition set to begin at 6. Area businesses will compete in teams of four or five bowlers each, and will bowl two rounds in order to determine the highest aggregate score. There are different levels of sponsorship available. Trip to Foxwoods: The Little Compton Community Center has arranged a trip to the Foxwoods casino April 19. The bus will leave Veterans’ Field at 8 a.m. and leave Foxwoods at 3:30 p.m., with a return to Little Compton at 5. A shuttle bus from Foxwoods will be available for people wishing to visit the Pequot Museum. A minimum of 30 people is needed for the trip. The cost is $18 for senior citizens and members of the community center, $20 for all others. Reservations and payment must be received by April 13. Benefit golf tournament: The 13th annual Cluny School Golf Classic will be held April 26 at the Newport Country Club. The event is open to the public for a $250 player fee.
