Tutors sought: Literacy Volunteers of East Bay is recruiting tutors to work with students in adult basic literacy and English. It is not necessary to be a teacher, have a college degree or speak another language to tutor. Literacy Volunteers trains incoming tutors.
The next tutor-training workshop will begin Monday for anyone interested in tutoring in East Providence, Barrington, Warren and Bristol. Meeting times are Monday, Thursday, May 19 and 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. and May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. All classes are required with one make-up allowed. Barrington
Bereavement support group: Home & Hospice Care of Rhode Island will offer Barrington residents a free general bereavement support group starting Tuesday. The group will meet at St. John’s Church, County Road, Tuesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m. through June 17. For information, contact Judy Peabody at 722-0681.
Bristol
After-prom activities: All junior class members at Mt. Hope High School are invited to participate in post-prom activities tonight at the Bayside YMCA, 70 West St., Barrington. Activities will begin at 11:30 p.m. and include late night swim events, casino fun, a disc jockey, raffle prizes and an early morning breakfast. Parents and families are encouraged to chaperone the event. Sponsored by both the Bristol and Warren Substance Abuse Task Forces, there will be no cost for participants. Portsmouth
Water bills to be mailed: The Portsmouth Water and Fire District will mail the annual water service bills next week. Water bills are due July 1. A late charge of $2 and interest of one percent each month will be applied to the unpaid balance for any accounts not paid by the due date. Anyone who has not received a bill for water usage by the end this month should contact the district office, 683-2090.
