Lacrosse signups: Registrations are now being accepted for the third annual Ocean State Lacrosse Camp to be held at St. Andrew’s School in Barrington July 7 to 11 for boys, ages 8 to 17 in grades 3 to 12.
The camp fee is $350; US Lacrosse members and each additional family member receive a $25 discount. Need-based financial aid is also available. For more information call 247-1003 or e-mail jeff@oceanlax.com.

Summer Reading Program performance: Animal Experiences with Dave Marchetti will be presented Monday at 6 p.m. at Barrington Public Library, County Road. Children will have a chance to meet some bugs up close and personal along with some of the animals who are their predators. The performance lasts about 45 minutes and is geared for children age 4 and up, no registration is required.
Bristol
Summertime Jazz at Cove Cabin: Mount Hope Farm’s annual “Summertime Jazz at Cove Cabin” will be held July 27 beginning at 4 p.m. at the farm, 250 Metacom Ave. Included will be a combination of jazz music and dancing to an 18-piece band, a silent auction and a lobster/steak dinner event overlooking scenic Mount Hope Bay. Tickets, which are $85, are limited and not available at the door. Reservations can also be made for tables of 10. All proceeds benefit Mount Hope Farm. To reserve tickets, call 254-1745.
East Providence
Interview skills workshop: The Riverside Branch Library will present an interview skills workshop July 8 at 1 p.m. with David Robert, manager of training and professional development at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Participants will find out everything from what they should wear to what questions they should ask, as well as how to answer difficult questions. This program is free to all. Little Compton
Benefit event: Pandora’s Boxes, a benefit for the Village Improvement Society, will open with a punch and pastry preview party Aug. 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wilbur School gym, the Commons. The event will continue Aug. 2 from noon to 7 p.m. Featured will be containers (boxes, baskets, pails, toys, pots, etc.) filled with items to reflect a theme. For example, a child’s wheelbarrow filled with gardening supplies, a large pan filled with clam boil items, a picnic basket outfitted for a picnic, etc.
The event will be run the same was as the town’s annual Tree Spree, with attendees purchasing tickets and placing them in the container next to the item they would like to win. Anyone interested in donating a “box” is asked to call 635-2241. Proceeds will help The Village Improvement Society to maintain the historic Brownell House on the Commons.
Middletown
Camp open house: The Norman Bird Sanctuary, 583 Third Beach Rd., will hold an open house Tuesday at 7 p.m. for its summer camp season. The event will highlight new policies and procedures for summer education programs and include information on camper schedules, forms, changes to pickup and drop-off procedures. Parents of both new and returning campers are strongly encouraged to attend.
Information will also be provided on ticks and preventing tick diseases. The program will last about one hour and is free. Registration is requested so that NBS can adequately plan for the number of participants.

A Summer Soiree: The Newport Art Museum will hold “A Summer Soiree” honoring Richard Grosvenor July 12. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a preview cocktail reception and the exhibition “Richard Grosvenor: Newport’s Muse and Mentor,” followed by dinner and dancing featuring the White Heat Orchestra. Tiverton
Blood drive: A community blood drive will be held Monday from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Amicable Congregational Church, 3736 Main Rd. All equipment is sterile, used only once, and then disposed. Donors can give blood if they are over the age of 17 and weigh 110 pounds or more. For information, call Rhode Island Blood Center at 453-8360.

Summer art program: The Jay Barry Cultural Arts Committee will present Summer Art 2008 at the George Hail Public Library, 530 Main St. The program, “Dreamscapes and Imagination,” for children ages 6 to 12, will focus on the world of dreams and fantasy. Young artists will exercise their imagination by creating art inspired by well known surrealist painters.
Students will explore techniques such as simple printmaking, textile art and mixed media collage.
Sessions will meet on Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. according to the following schedule: Session One, July 17 and 24, Session Two July 31 and Aug. 7 and Session Three, Aug. 14 and 21. For information and to reserve a place in one of the sessions, call the library’s Children’s Room, 245-7686.
