The final concrete box beam is in place for the new Warren River bridge.

Frank Corrao, deputy chief engineer for the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said yesterday that with the supports for the riding surface now in place, workers can begin running utility lines, erecting safety rails and laying sidewalks along the 260-foot span between Warren and Barrington.

The bridge is scheduled to be ready for traffic in June.

“There is a significant amount of work that needs to be done,” he said.

The same is true for the Barrington River bridge, just to the west. The final box beam is also in place and the opening date for that bridge, which is about 420 feet long, is sometime next summer.

Work began on the Barrington River bridge in October 2003. Workers started replacing the Warren bridge in January 2006, Corrao said.
