Barrington teen fined, ordered to perform community service

01:00 AM EDT on Friday, May 16, 2008

BARRINGTON — Corey J. Place, 18, of 416 Sowams Rd., was fined $150 and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service after pleading no contest Wednesday to one count of underage possession of alcohol.

Place was one of seven teens arrested after they were found drinking next to Brickyard Pond last month. When Patrolman Wesley McCoy surprised the teens, he saw Place immediately toss a can of beer into the pond.

A second teen, Ryan Greenberg, 17, remains at the ACI because, at the time the group was discovered, he was free on bail, facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with the death of Patrick Murphy last summer.

In the pond incident, McCoy and other officers found over a dozen beer cans on the ground, a 30-pack with more empty cans on the ground, and more than 15 full cans of beer in backpacks. There were also a couple of bottles of Gatorade that tested positive for alcohol, believed to be vodka.
