5 vehicles vandalized in Barrington spree

01:00 AM EDT on Tuesday, August 19, 2008

BARRINGTON — The police are looking for one or more vandals who went on a windshield-smashing spree last week that affected four owners. A fifth vehicle had a shattered taillight.

All the incidents apparently occurred in the overnight hours of Aug. 12 and 13.

At 24 Western Ave., a Winnebago owned by Raymond White had its window severely damaged, apparently by a rock. Just two blocks over, at 9 Congress Rd., vandals smashed the windshield of a Mitsubishi Eclipse owned by Daniel Hornsby.

Other broken windshields were at the Rhode Island Country Club at Nayatt Road, where both the front and rear windows of a white Honda owned by Kyle Phelps, of Evergreen Drive, Portsmouth, was damaged, and along Nayatt Road in front of Tillinghast Farm, where the police found a Volkswagen sedan that had been driven to the scene by Samuel Seidel, of Chapin Ave., Providence, with a shattered rear window.

And just to the east, at 15 Anchorage Way, a rock was apparently used to break the rear taillight of a Ford Explorer owned by Mark McAndrew.

In other police news from the week:

•Trevor Daniel Dzurenda, 29, of No. 119, 903 Providence Place, Providence, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he registered a .165 on a blood alcohol test, more than twice the legal limit. He was stopped just after midnight Thursday on County Road.

•Joanne L. Nestell, 28, of 28 Apollo Rd., Apt. 6D, East Providence, was also arrested for driving under the influence after her car was found parked on the lawn near the entrance to the Zion Bible Institute on Middle Highway just before 3 a.m. Friday. The police said she was so intoxicated she could not stand. She was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital.
