Tomorrow is World Communion Sunday, widely observed by Protestants around the world as an expression of the oneness of the global community of faith.
At sundown Wednesday, Jews around the world begin their observance of Yom Kippur, or Day of Atonement. Known as the “Sabbath of Sabbaths” and the holiest single day on the Hebrew calendar, it is a day of prayer and repentance accompanied by fasting. Worship begins with Kol Nidre, asking forgiveness for unkept promises and vows.
Also Thursday, Hindus celebrate Dashara, or Vijaya Dashami, celebrating the triumph of the Divine Mother over evil. It also commemorates Rama’s victory over the demon Ravana. It is a time when many Hindus send Vijaya greetings to relatives and friends.
