Baby sitter training: Aspiring baby sitters can learn some of the skills they need for the job at Women & Infants’ Babysitting Camp. The five-day class offers CPR training, information on child growth and development, first aid and discipline techniques.
Classes will be offered mornings throughout the summer at Women & Infants Centers for Health Education in East Greenwich, Providence, South Kingstown and Swansea. For dates, directions or to register, call (401) 276-7800, ext.100 or register online at ww.womenandinfants.org.
Church celebrates anniversary: The Reverend Jo-Ann J. Drake, rector, will officiate at a Festive Eucharist Sunday at 4 p.m. to begin a yearlong celebration of The Church of the Redeemer’s 150th anniversary as a parish of The Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island.
The church at 655 Hope St. was built in 1917. The original church on North Main Street was built in 1859.
For information, call (401) 331-0678 or visit www.churchofredeemer.net.
Protest against torture: Those who wish to protest torture are invited to join others in a rotating prayer vigil for the victims of torture from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday at the Providence Friends Meeting House at Morris Avenue and Olney Street. The vigil is sponsored by Action by Christians for the Abolition of Torture.
Volunteer caregivers: Want to help somebody maintain his or her independence and make life a little easier? Volunteer to become a Westbay Caregiver for a Kent County senior citizen.
Caregivers assist by running errands, shopping for groceries, chatting on the telephone, visiting over a cup of tea and helping with home tasks such as check writing and other household chores. Most services are provided within Kent County, but some volunteers travel to Providence to take clients to doctor appointments.
The Westbay Community Action Program is looking for volunteers to join Westbay Caregivers. Training is provided. For more information, call Susan Lewis, (401) 732-4666, ext. 154.
Boating safety check: Boaters can start the season safely with a free and quick vessel safety check.
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Somerset Flotilla 84 is holding its second local boating safety day Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Swansea Marina, 161 Calef Ave.
The vessel safety check can usually be completed in less than 15 minutes.
Boaters may either trailer their boats to the Swansea Marina, or arrive via the water and tie up at the marina dock. Swansea Marina members may have their vessels examined at their own slip.
