A story of caring

In 1939, Sir Nicholas Winton saved 669 children — most of them Jewish — from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia. He brought them to Britain and kept it a secret for nearly 50 years. Winton is now 98 years old and a symbol of how a caring person can truly make a difference. Hanna Slome, one of those children, will share her story Sunday, Oct. 19, at a 10 a.m. breakfast at Temple Am David, 40 Gardiner St., Warwick. The program is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is required by Oct. 10. For more information, call (401) 463-7944.

Catholic programming

RealCatholicTV.com launched the first television station of its kind this month on the Internet. For the first time, all Internet users can access solid Catholic programming, including daily news, political commentary, and features on saints and history. Beginning Wednesday, premium users will be able to access regular episodes on morality, movie reviews, entertainment, apologetics and more.

Red Mass Thursday

The Rev. Msgr. F. Stephen Pedone, judicial vicar and vicar for canonical affairs for the Diocese of Worcester, will be the principal homilist at the annual Red Mass to be celebrated by Roman Catholic Bishop Thomas J. Tobin at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul.

Sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society, the Red Mass is celebrated each fall to coincide with the beginning of the new judicial season, and typically draws lawyers, judges and government officials from across the state.
