Kevin Youkilis fashioned a career-high 23-game hitting streak that included nine straight multiple-hit games, tying Jim Rice’s team record.
The streak began with a pedestrian 1-for-5 night on May 5, a single in Minnesota. But it soon picked up steam and continued until he went 0-for-2 (with three walks) in a June 2 game at home against the Yankees.
Over his hot stretch, Youkilis notched three three-hit games and 14 two-hit games, raising his average from .280 to .353. Along the way, Youkilis racked up 13 doubles and 6 homers and drove in 21 runs. He had at least one RBI in 17 of the 23 games.
