FORT MYERS, Fla. — Eight new members will be inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame this fall, including two — Mike Greenwell and Mo Vaughn — who fought each other during pregame batting practice.
The induction will be held Nov. 7 at the Copley Marriott and represents the seventh class of inductees.
The class includes six players — Greenwell, Vaughn, pitchers Bill Lee, Frank Sullivan, Wes Ferrell, shortstop Everett Scott — and two non-uniformed personnel: scout George Digby and executive Ed Kenney Sr.
Greenwell and Vaughn were teammates for much of the 1990s and once brawled on the field in Anaheim, an event that came to be known as “The Rage in the Cage.”
Greenwell hit .303 in his Red Sox career and was a runner-up to Jose Canseco for the A.L. MVP in 1988. Vaughn hit 230 homers from 1991-98 and was the A.L. MVP in 1995.
Lee won 94 games and was a three-time 17-game winner while pitching for the Sox. Ferrell, who died in 1996, twice won 20 games for the Sox in the 1940s. Sullivan won 90 games between 1953-1960. Scott was the starting shortstop on three World Series championship teams in the World War I era.
Digby signed scores of players in a 50-year career and Kenney, who died in 1996, was an executive with the Sox across four decades.
Ted Williams’ final home run, in his last major-league at-bat on Sept. 28, 1960, was chosen as an Outstanding Red Sox moment.
