Manager Terry Francona reportedly negotiating new deal with Red Sox
11:05 AM EST on Wednesday, February 20, 2008
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Manager Terry Francona met with Red Sox ownership last night to begin negotiations on a contract extension.
Principal owner John Henry confirmed to WBZ-TV yesterday that a meeting was planned for last night. Francona, contacted last evening, refused to comment about the session.
Francona’s current contract expires at the end of the season and the Red Sox last October said a new deal for their manager would be an offseason priority.
Francona will make $1.75 million this year and is expected to seek a significant raise over that figure after winning a second World Series championship in four years last fall.
