Injured Sox to continue rehab
07:35 AM EDT on Tuesday, August 26, 2008
NEW YORK — Red Sox pitcher David Aardsma (groin) and shortstop Julio Lugo (quad tear) were examined by Dr. Peter Asnis yesterday in Boston.
Originally, both were scheduled to have MRIs, but those exam were not performed. Aardsma had x-rays taken, however, which were negative. Both have been cleared to resume their rehab with trainer Scott Waugh in Boston.
Third baseman Mike Lowell will join the team in New York today. He’s on the DL with an oblique strain. He had been rehabbing at his home in Miami while the Red Sox were in Baltimore and Toronto.
There’s no word on whether outfielder J.D. Drew will be placed on the DL. He has a herniated disk in his back and has missed the last six games.
