BALTIMORE — Pitcher Josh Beckett, who had his next start pushed back three days because of numbness and tingling in the pinky and ring fingers on his throwing hand, is expected to throw tomorrow in preparation for his start Tuesday night in New York.
“We’re not going to pitch him until he’s symptom-free,” said manager Terry Francona, who believes the right-hander will be able to make his next start.
“We’re just a little bit hesitant to let a guy pitch and then put him at risk,” added Francona. “We don’t want to do that, so if there are some symptoms, we’ve held him back. We’re not hiding [anything].”
Francona said Beckett was “begging” to throw yesterday or today, but trainer Mike Reinold disapproved.
“Because he really wants to throw, that’s a good sign,” said Francona.
