•HIGHLIGHTS: The power stroke of the bottom of the order. Outfielder Sean Danielson, in his first year in the Red Sox organization, hit his first home run of the season in the ninth spot in the lineup and did so at an opportune time. His smash over the right-field fence off Clippers pitcher Ryan Wagner gave the PawSox a 6-5 lead in the seventh. No. 7 hitter Gil Velazquez hit a two-run homer in the second, eighth hitter Chad Spann added a three-run shot in the eighth and six-hole hitter Dusty Brown opened the ninth with a solo home run to deep center. The 11-run outburst was Pawtucket’s biggest since a 6-1 win over Toledo on July 18. Spann entered the game hitting .185 but went 2-for-5. “The whole team had a good day at the plate today,” Spann said. “I don’t know if it had something to do with it being a day game, but it always seems like we start slow in this stadium because of the glare. They were throwing a lot of off-speed [pitches] the last couple days and I think we did a good job making them throw fastballs today.”

•KEYS TO THE GAME: The Pawtucket bats came alive again after scoring a combined five runs over the last three games as the PawSox salvaged a split of the four-game series. In addition to the four home runs, Jonathan Van Every singled and scored twice, Chris Carter was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Sandy Madera had a two-run double. Although pitcher Charlie Zink struggled in the middle innings, he settled down and pitched scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh, and the bullpen of Jon Switzer and Eric Hull gave up a combined one run over the final three innings. Clippers pitcher Ryan Wagner, making his second rehab assignment, gave up six hits and five earned runs in one inning of relief.

•NOTES: With the win yesterday, the PawSox went 5-3 to capture the season series against the Clippers. Pawtucket is 14-14 against the International League’s West Division. … The only players who failed to get hits for the PawSox were leadoff hitter Jeff Bailey, who went 0-for-4 with a walk, and No. 2-hitter Joe Thurston, who was 0-for-5.

•THEY SAID IT: “The biggest thing is that we were able to score 11 runs and Thurston and Bailey didn’t get a hit,” manager Ron Johnson said. “That’s rare territory around here. It was good to see other parts of the lineup contribute. And I was pleased with Charlie Zink. Part of maturity is getting through that third inning and not letting that become a seven-run inning.”

•ON DECK: The PawSox travel to Toledo to begin a four-game series against the Mud Hens at 7 tonight at Fifth Third Field. David Pauley (11-3, 3.55), who will face Yorman Bazardo (4-5, 6.21), gave up five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings in an 8-4 loss to Toledo last Sunday, his last start.
