Clippers 4, PawSox 1 -- Pawtucket loses third straight as bats go quiet
07:38 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 22, 2008
•KEYS TO THE GAME: Starting pitcher Michael Bowden kept Pawtucket in the game in his first Triple-A start and the bullpen of Michael Tejera and Eric Hull held Columbus to one run over the final five innings, but Clippers starter Garrett Mock was nearly flawless. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out six over the first seven innings, and the run he allowed was unearned.
•HIGHLIGHTS: Offensively, there were few for Pawtucket. The PawSox scored their only run in the third when Sean Danielson singled, stole second and moved on to third when the throw from catcher Luke Montz went into center field and scored on a sacrifice fly by Joe Thurston.
•THEY SAID IT: “Realistically, we did little offensively. Our pitching was fine. Overall throughout the game, we didn’t play badly but we just didn’t do much to win.” — PawSox manager Ron Johnson
•NOTES: Because of what Johnson called a “snafu” with airlines arrangements, the team was forced to fly to Columbus on two separate planes — with one of the planes arriving at 2:30 p.m.
•ON DECK: Pawtucket plays game two of its four-game series in Columbus at 7:05 tonight.
