FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Word is Jacoby Ellsbury will arrive at spring training is awesome shape.

The Sox' center fielder will arrive here on Saturday and plans to work out on the field at the club's Player Development Complex on Sunday.

The 6-foot-1 Ellsbury has been working out like a madman this offseason and, according to teammate Dustin Pedroia, the outfielder is "jacked."

Ellsbury is up to 195 pounds with only 7 percent body fat.

With the departure of Coco Crisp, centerfield will be Ellsbury's for a long time if he's able to reach the potential the Red Sox believe he has.

"I think Jacoby is already an impact defender and impact baserunner," said GM Theo Epstein. "With his track record in the minor leagues, he's a guy we feel will hit and get on base enough to be a real weapon offensively moreso than he already is."

The league adjusted to him in 2008. They found a hole in his swing and took advantage of it.

Now it's his time to make adjustments.

"He has the talent level and the drive to make those adjustments," he said. "We should have a roster where he's protected a little bit and he's ready to make that next step."

Ellsbury hit .280 with nine homers and 47 RBI, along with 22 doubles, 7 triples and 50 stolen bases. The Red Sox plan on him being around for a long time.
