Pedroia has advice for Red Sox' playoff newcomers
08:27 AM EDT on Wednesday, October 1, 2008
BOSTON -- Don’t tell Dustin Pedroia about postseason jitters.
Few players in history enjoyed as much success in their first playoff go-round as the Red Sox second baseman did in 2007. Pedroia hit .283 with 10 RBI in 14 games last October. His best game came in Game Seven of the ALCS, when he went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI against the Indians.
This Red Sox team has several postseason rookies, including Jason Bay, Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson. Pedroia is dressing next to Lowrie on this trip and has some simple advice.
“It’s the same game. It’s not like they’re backing the mound up or anything,” said Pedroia. “They need to go out and relax do what they do and don’t try to do too much. That’s how you get into trouble. I got into trouble the first series last year. I was trying to hit a home run every pitch. That’s not who I am and they’ll figure it out.”
