PawSox' Tamburro wins Executive of the Year award
08:20 AM EDT on Wednesday, September 24, 2008
BOSTON -- The Pawtucket Red Sox and the International League just announced that team president Mike Tamburro has been selected as the 2008 IL Executive of the Year. This is the fifth time (1984, 1988, 2001, 2004 and 2008) Tamburro has won the award.
He is the only IL executive to win five times. The award has been presented annually since 1964.
"We accept this award, as all before it, for our entire Pawtucket Red Sox organization and for our talented and dedicated staff," said Tamburro. "We have never believed in individual awards - this award belongs to our entire organization and the over 13 millions fans who have attended PawSox games since 1977. We thank our Major League partner, the Boston Red Sox, for their outstanding Player Development Program and we especially thank the International League Board of Directors for once again considering us for this award."
Tamburro, 56, began working in Pawtucket in 1977 and has been at owner Ben Mondor's side since the very beginning. The PawSox organization is considered one of the best in all of professional sports.
