Colon travels to the Dominican, might be willing to pitch in Sox bullpen
08:15 AM EDT on Thursday, September 18, 2008
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Bartolo Colon, who was scheduled to throw a side session here yesterday before the team mapped out plans for him for the final week of the season, instead returned to the Dominican Republic yesterday to attend a personal matter.
Plans calls for Colon to rejoin the team tomorrow in Toronto, at which time they will speak to him about how he might be used the remainder of the year.
Somewhat surprisingly, Colon expressed a willingness to pitch in relief for the Red Sox, a role he had disavowed while with the Angels last year.
