Portsmouth's Westmoreland shut down for 2008
07:59 AM EDT on Thursday, September 4, 2008
BOSTON -- Red Sox draft pick and Rhode Island native Ryan Westmoreland has been shut down temporarily due to strength issues and for precautionary measures.
It’s not a serious issue for Boston’s fifth-round selection (172nd overall), but when he reported to the GCL Red Sox two days after signing a contract worth $2 million on Aug. 17, there was some fatigue in his shoulder.
