Boston Red Sox
Beckett moving toward Friday night start
07:17 AM EDT on Tuesday, September 2, 2008
BOSTON -- Josh Beckett long-tossed in the outfield yesterday and plans to have a side session today in anticipation of his return to the mound Friday in Texas.
Beckett hasn’t pitched since Aug. 17 because of inflammation in the elbow and temporary numbness in his right hand and fingers.
His return to health was further slowed late last week when he fell victim to the intestinal bug that swept the clubhouse, but he is at full strength again.
Manager Terry Francona said the Sox would likely limit his pitch count somewhat against the Rangers, but added that that was a reflection of the time he has lost and not the result of any concern over his readiness or physical well-being.
