Wakefield could fill gap if Beckett' can't go
07:33 AM EDT on Thursday, August 21, 2008
BALTIMORE -- Tim Wakefield threw a 44-pitch side session yesterday and reportedly felt fine. The veteran knuckleballer will throw another side on Saturday in Toronto, and it’s possible he’ll be ready to pitch in a game after that. If Josh Beckett can’t pitch in New York on Tuesday, Wakefield said he’ll be ready to go. He said he is no longer feeling stiffness in his shoulder and considers himself pain-free. He also said he’ll try to stretch more in an attempt to keep the stiffness from returning.
