Ortiz gets a night off as wrist remains an issue

CHICAGO -- David Ortiz was given last night off by manager Terry Francona, who said the slugger’s wrist was “tender and stiff.”
Other factors: the presence of lefthander John Danks on the mound and the fact that the Sox will be getting in very late from this, their final game on a seven-game road trip, with a homestand set to start tonight.
Until last night, Ortiz had started every game since returning from the disabled list July 25.
He had a breakout game Saturday night with three hits and three RBI, but was 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts Sunday.
With Ortiz out, Kevin Youkilis hit third and J.D. Drew served as the DH.
Youkilis had himself been a late scratch Sunday with what was labeled an “impingement” of the left shoulder, the result of some overzealous weight-lifting earlier on the trip.
Drew, meanwhile, was serving as the DH for just the second time since joining the Red Sox before the 2007 season.
