As players clear waivers, Sox look for bullpen help

KANSAS CITY, Mo -- A number of players across baseball have cleared waivers in the first week of August, making them available to trade.
Relievers Scott Schoeneweis and Duaner Sanchez have cleared, though neither player interests the Sox much.
Lefty Scott Eyre, designated for assignment, interests the Sox some — they talked to the Chicago Cubs about him before the non-waiver deadline — but the Sox are trying to determine how much of an upgrade he would be over their present crop of relievers.
Meanwhile, the Sox had someone at Freddie Garcia’s workout Tuesday, which was scouted by a dozen or so teams. Garcia has been out all season and says he could be ready to pitch in a few weeks, but the Sox’ interest appears minimal.
