Red Sox still have interest in relief pitcher Eyre
07:21 AM EDT on Wednesday, August 6, 2008
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Chicago Cubs designated reliever Scott Eyre for assignment yesterday, meaning they have 10 days to release him or make a deal for him.
The Red Sox had interest in Eyre before the non-waiver trading deadline, and are still monitoring him as a lefty specialist.
They could either try again to work out a deal — if Eyre clears waivers — or claim him on waivers. Still another route might be waiting for him to clear and then offering him a contract.
