Lugo jogs for first time since injury
10:06 AM EDT on Sunday, August 3, 2008
BOSTON -- Red Sox shortstop Julio Lugo, who suffered a quadriceps injury July 12, ran for the first time yesterday. He was able to jog in the outfield with no setbacks.
He was in the clubhouse earlier yesterday with an ice pack around his leg and he said he was very encouraged about his rehab.
“It feels good,” he said. “It’s coming along.”
If he continues to progress, he’ll have a minor-league rehab soon.
In his absence, rookie Jed Lowrie has been solid both in the field and at the plate. He entered last night’s game with a .280 average with one homer and 13 RBI in 30 games. In fact, he provided the game-winning hit in the bottom of the 12th inning on Friday against the A’s.
