Boston Red Sox
Healthy David Ortiz is a hot hitter
05:53 AM EDT on Tuesday, July 29, 2008
BOSTON -- It hasn’t taken long for David Ortiz to get back into the swing of things. In four games since returning from an eight-week stint on the disabled list, Ortiz has hit safely in each and collected multiple hits in the last three.
Last night, Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double, single and a walk. He has four RBI in his four games back.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said he isn’t surprised by how well Ortiz has responded following the injury to his left wrist.
“We didn’t rush him back,” said Francona. “I think he’s OK.”
The manager also doesn’t expect any setbacks.
“If he came to me and said he needed a day off, we would certainly do that,” Francona said. “I don’t think he feels like that.”
