Pedroia remains hot at the plate, and on the basepaths
07:19 AM EDT on Thursday, July 24, 2008
SEATTLE -- Dustin Pedroia extended his hitting streak on the road to 24 games with a two-hit performance.
That tied Nomar Garciaparra for the longest road hitting streak by a Red Sox player since 1956.
Pedroia also tied Steve Sax for the third-longest road hitting streak for a second baseman. Only Luis Castillo (27 games in 2002) and Johnny Temple (33 games from 1960-61) have had longer streaks since 1956.
Pedroia recorded his 10th steal without being caught in the first inning, but was later nabbed as part of the back end of a strike-out, throw-out double play in the seventh. He is now 10-for-11 in stolen-base attempts. Pedroia gives the Sox four players with double figures in steals. Jacoby Ellsbury leads the team with 35, Coco Crisp is next with 14 and Julio Lugo (currently on the DL) has 12. The last time the Sox had four players in double figures in steals was 1995 (Lee Tinsley, Mo Vaughn, John Valentin and Luis Alicea).
