Youkilis OK after ugly hit-by-pitch
08:05 AM EDT on Monday, July 14, 2008
BOSTON - Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis was removed from yesterday’s game after the bottom of the fifth inning with a left triceps contusion. X-rays taken at Fenway Park were negative. Youkilis, playing third base yesterday, was drilled in the arm by Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera with one out in the the fifth inning and replaced with rookie Jed Lowrie.
“He’s OK,” manager Terry Francona said. “He kind of got hit in that funny bone, and at the time he didn’t feel real good, but he’s OK.”
Youkilis heads into the All-Star break with a .314 average, including 15 homers and 63 RBI.
