A unique bunt single for Lugo

BOSTON -- Julio Lugo racked up a pair of infield hits Wednesday, boosting his season’s total to 18. He had entered the game tied for fifth in the American League with 16 infield singles. One of his hits was a bunt single, but not the garden-variety bunt single.
Lugo pushed the ball with authority to shortstop where the Twins’ Nick Punto was playing back in a normal position. Third baseman Brian Buscher was playing in, guarding against Lugo dropping it down the line, which is where most bunt-for-hit attempts go. The ball was hit too hard for Buscher to cut off.
Lugo also swiped his 12th base.
