Pedroia extends hitting streak to 16 games

BOSTON - Dustin Pedroia last night stretched his hitting streak to 16 games, the longest streak of the year for the Sox. Manny Ramirez had cobbled together a 15-gamer from May 25-June 11. The last member of the Sox with a 16-game streak was Mike Lowell, from Aug. 18-Sept. 3 last season.
Pedroia is batting a sizzling .486 (34-for-70) during his streak with six doubles, one triple, three homers and nine RBI. The burst has boosted his average from .274 to .313. Pedroia boasts 10 multiple-hit games in his streak.
Overall, Pedroia has hit in 23 of his last 24 games, his only hitless game over that stretch came in the form of against St. Louis on June 21.
