Ramirez blase about his All-Star selection
08:16 AM EDT on Monday, July 7, 2008
NEW YORK -- Manny Ramirez didn't seem to upbeat about his All-Star selection on Sunday.
"What's this, my 12th?" asked Ramirez to a group of reporters.
When told it was, the Red Sox slugger just shrugged his shoulders and downplayed the situation.
Do you appreciate it, though?
"It's a big deal to go to an All-Star game, he said. "I'll have fun and then move on."
He won't be alone as six other of his teammates will be on hand at Yankee Stadium next week.
"We have such great guys," he said. "It's good they are going to be here with me. It's going to be a lot of fun."
When asked what he thought about the 3,428,577 votes he received, Ramirez had some fun with that one.
"They know me everywhere," he said. "What can I tell you, that's why I made it."
He will receive a $75,000 bonus for making the All-Star team. He said he didn't know if he did or not.
"I don't know," he said. "Check my contract or call [Red Sox president Larry] Lucchino."
