Four Red Sox lead their positions in All-Star voting
07:15 AM EDT on Monday, June 30, 2008
HOUSTON - Several Red Sox players continue to hold leads at their respective positions as fan voting for the All-Star team winds down.
Kevin Youkilis holds nearly a 300,000-vote edge over Minnesota’s Justin Morneau at first base. Dustin Pedroia enjoys an edge of approximately 185,000 over runner-up Ian Kinsler of Texas at second.
Manny Ramirez is first among A.L. outfielders while J.D. Drew is sixth, needing to make up an almost 300,000-vote gap.
David Oritz is the runaway leader at DH but it’s doubtful that Ortiz, on the DL with a wrist injury, will be cleared to take part in the game.
Jason Varitek is second among catchers, some 150,000 votes behind Minnesota’s Joe Mauer.
Voting concludes Wednesday and the full squads will be announced Sunday.
