Casey drops appeal of brawl suspension
08:10 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
BOSTON - First baseman Sean Casey dropped his appeal yesterday and began serving his suspension last night. Center fielder Coco Crisp also had his appeal heard and no decision has been made.
Both players were involved in a bench-clearing brawl with the Tampa Bay Rays on June 5 at Fenway Park. Crisp was suspended for seven games, pitcher Jon Lester for five and Casey for three. Lester already has served his time. The appeals were heard yesterday.
“I’ve never been in one before, but everything went fine,” said Crisp. “Is there any news? No. I should probably hear in a few days. There’s really nothing to talk about now because I don’t have any information.”
