Varitek ends his longest hitting drought
08:04 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 24, 2008
BOSTON - Over the first two innings last night, Dan Haren retired all six batters he faced on a total of 17 pitches.
The seventh batter he faced was Jason Varitek, mired in the worst drought of his career, an 0-for-24 slump.
The count ran full. He threw seven pitches to Varitek, the last one a 3-and-2 fastball that the Sox catcher ripped off the Monster in center for a double.
