Ramirez, Youkilis held out of Sox lineup
07:54 AM EDT on Thursday, June 19, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - Opting to err on the side of caution, Francona elected to not use Manny Ramirez and Kevin Youkilis in the starting lineup for yesterday’s game.
Factoring into his decision was the Red Sox’ regularly scheduled day off today, which in essence provides two days off for them.
Ramirez has been battling a hamstring problem, low on his right leg, behind his knee. He aggravated the problem when he took a mighty cut and missed a pitch in the seventh inning of Tuesday night’s game. It is expected he’ll be able to serve as the designated hitter tomorrow night when the Sox host St. Louis.
Youkilis, meanwhile, missed his third straight game because of a sore back. He’ll probably be well enough to start tomorrow night.
