Boston Red Sox
Jimy Williams a big admirer of Chase Utley
07:13 AM EDT on Tuesday, June 17, 2008
PHILADELPHIA - Former Red Sox manager Jimy Williams is the Phillies’ bench coach. He has been impressed by the team’s latest MVP candidate, Chase Utley, the league leader in homers (22), second in RBI (61) and just out of the top 10 in batting (.309).
Williams considers the second baseman a throwback player, someone who plays with intensity every day, every inning.
“It’s like he’s been here before. Like Nomar [Garciaparra]. He played against Ty Cobb,” said an admiring Williams of Utley’s yesteryear approach to the game.
