Casey appeals his brawl suspension
07:28 AM EDT on Thursday, June 12, 2008
BOSTON -- Red Sox first baseman Sean Casey’s suspension is set to begin this weekend when the team travels to Cincinnati. The former Reds player will appeal the decision to suspend him for his part in a bench-clearing brawl with the Tampa Bay Rays last week at Fenway Park.
“Yes, he’s going to appeal,” said manager Terry Francona. “Are you kidding me? He would miss the Cincinnati series. Plus, I don’t think he feels real good about the suspension, anyway.”
Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp is also appealing his suspension, but that hearing won’t be held until June 23.
